“We have a chance to develop the best products in the best possible way because we know exactly where each raw material is produced and how it has been produced”

I have always wanted to work with food! Before joining HKScan I was a student studying Meat and Dairy Technology. What I have found interesting about working in the food industry is that many people do not know exactly how their food is made. Being a part of this is a very big responsibility and particularly at HKScan where we own the whole value chain.

We have a chance to develop the best products in the best possible way because we know exactly where each raw material is produced and how it has been produced. This is very important.

Quest for the perfect flavour

I am responsible for the development of different HKScan products in various categories and concepts. Our categories consist of processed food, poultry, red meat etc. An example of a concept could be for example ‘meals for two’. I develop products we think would be successful based on these concepts. All concepts are created using research information based on market trends, so we work closely with our Marketing team to find out what new things we can start developing.

Our development practices involve making new recipes, sourcing ingredients, pairing meats and spices and several tastings which I enjoy.  It also requires lots of testing: samples, packaging, label information and most importantly testing the overall production process to test how the production will be carried out.

Creating products with care

Because the products all vary, I do not have typical work days. My work days are quite flexible and I can plan as I go along.

One of the great things about my job is that I work closely with other product developers. It is fruitful to talk and exchange thoughts on how we can make things better. This is where I find our company values: Inspire, Lead and Care mean the most to me because we all really care about what we do by creating products we all would buy for ourselves.
