Tuesday the nationwide non-profit knowledge hub, Cabi, revealed the winners of the annual CSR People Prize during a ceremony at Turbinehallerne in Aarhus. The CSR People Prize 2023, in the category for companies with over 250 employees, was awarded to HKScan Denmark for its ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion. Competing for the title were also the engineering company Danfoss and the construction company Enemærke & Pedersen.

"I am immensely proud of this award on behalf of the entire HKScan team. We have always felt an unwavering commitment to support and develop our employees and contribute to the local community. Safety, diversity, and inclusion have been part of our company's DNA ever since Marie Pedersen founded Vinderup Fjerkræslagteri over 70 years ago. Therefore, winning this prize, which encapsulates what we work diligently on in our company's development, is a tremendous honor," said Tommy Nielsen, Production Manager at HKScan Denmark.

HKScan Denmark has been employing and supporting people who have had difficulty finding their footing in the job market for many years. For instance, since 2015, Tommy Nielsen and his colleagues have helped more than 150 employees through job training via a close collaboration with local job centers and their dedicated consultants. This was one of the aspects highlighted by the chair of the jury behind the award, Cabi's director Mette Rønnau, during the award presentation:

"HKScan wins the CSR People Prize 2023 because they have succeeded in achieving positive results despite economic challenges and have maintained their social efforts. We want to emphasize HKScan's efforts in hiring and including individuals on the margins of the job market. Approximately 10 percent of their employees come from the margins, and 42 percent of their workforce has a different ethnic background than Danish. HKScan is a company that the rest of the industry should draw inspiration from," said Mette Rønnau, Director at Cabi.

HR Director at HKScan Denmark, Marianne Boe Madsen, who received the prestigious award alongside Production Manager Tommy Nielsen, Production Supervisor Jasmina Bosnjak, and factory worker Elnaz Zare, is delighted with the newfound recognition and believes it will hold great value for the company's future.

"Last year, we received the Danish Working Environment Council's Working Environment Prize for our efforts to reduce the number of workplace accidents. Earlier this year, both of our factories achieved the highest possible BRC AA+ certification in food safety, and now we are winning this prestigious CSR award for our ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion. It makes me incredibly proud. Our efforts in these areas are crucial to our continued operation and development as a company. By fostering an inclusive corporate culture, we significantly expand our talent pool at a time when recruiting qualified labor in Denmark is challenging, and today's recognition certainly contributes to that," said Marianne Boe Madsen, HR Director for HKScan Denmark.
